Educator Workshop: New African Masquerades
During this workshop, educators will:
- Engage in a guided tour of New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations.
- Learn about contemporary West African masquerade artists Chief Ekpenyong Bassey Nsa (Nigeria), David Sanou (Burkina Faso), Sheku “Goldenfinger” Fofanah (Sierra Leone), and Hervé Youmbi (Cameroon) and the nuanced and layered stories that these artists and the masquerades tell.
- Participate in conversations and cross-curricular dialogue.
- Review the Educator Guide and other resources created for the exhibition.
- Participate in an interactive movement activity followed by an art-making activity inspired by the exhibition; together, we’ll explore how performance and movement can inspire creative expression in the visual arts.
